FAQ

Whether it is your daily run, training for the next marathon, on the court, or in the field, TRREX can give you that extra edge. With TRREX cooling you, you’ll get to focus more on the play and less on the work. take the heat off!

How does TRREX keep me cool?

The coldpacks provide the cold. The patent pending fabric of the shirt distributes the temperature. When you insert the coldpacks into the special shirt pockets, your core is kept cooler, for your comfort and enhanced performance.

Is this similar to wicking fabric?

Yes and no. Yes, it wicks moisture away from your body, to keep you more dry and comfortable. In addition, the unique combination of fabric and cold packs actually provide cooling relief across your body core. This is a revolution in athletic apparel performance.

How long will it keep me cool?

Up to 6 hours depending on temperature and humidity. In normal summer heat, it averages 4 hours. In the extremes of the Middle East, when our military soldiers are under severe heat and humidity conditions, it may last as short as 2 hours. However, in many instances the heat will last a full 6 hours – nearly an entire day of comfort and cool relief. Many of our customers who work outside in long days keep an extra set of cold pack inserts cooling their lunch in a lunch box, and switch them out to wear during midday.

What is the difference between the TRREX SHIRT and the TRREX VEST?

There are really two main differences between the shirt and the vest:

The athletic shirt is more of a stand-alone shirt, or could be worn as an undershirt as well. The vest is a style that can be worn over another shirt, so that you can easily put it on and take it off as needed.

The second difference is fabric – the vest is not the patent-pending fabric that specially distributes the cool temperature across the entire garment. You will have the benefit of convenience and of the cold comfort, but the cooling impact will not be as dramatic. So, it is really a matter of preference.

Both provide anywhere from 2-6 hours of cool depending on conditions and both are washable and reusable.

In most of our industrial applications, companies and individuals are choosing the shirt if they are wearing it under a uniform or gear (ex. firemen) and choosing the vest for convenience or price (ex. outdoor construction)

Is there any activity I can’t do while wearing TRREX?

So far, TRREX has benefited everyone in the heat. Coldpack inserts are light and thin. If thickness or weight impedes movement, some individuals have chosen to wear the inserts pre and post activity.

For military, note that the materials could melt if placed in direct fire, similar to many other apparel fabrics. For most exposed to direct fire, like firemen, military, and construction workers, traditional exterior fireproof uniform is considered sufficient protection.

How do the cold inserts work?

The special design allows them to be shipped and stored without water for convenience. After hydrating with water, they will need to be frozen in the freezer for several hours. Once hydrated, it seals the water/gel inside, allowing the durapacks to be used over and over, without getting oozy or messy. The special properties of the interior gel/water also provides some flexibility, is nontoxic and worry free, can be chilled to below freezing temperatures if desired, and can last as long as 6 hours. The design allows the cold inserts to be refrozen over and over, rehydrated and even cleaned with soapy water if ever desired.

How do I hydrate for the first time?

Simply submerge inserts in warm tap water for 5 to 10 minutes. Then remove insert from water and gently squeeze each of the three cells inside each insert until outer liner is filled. Place inserts back into water for an additional 10 minutes. Remove from water and allow to completely drain excess water before freezing. Inserts can be rehydrated if needed.

How do I freeze inserts?

Place the insets flat inside your freezer for at least 24 hours before first use. Inserts can be frozen in just a few hours. The longer you freeze the inserts the more effective they will be.

Can I reuse/refreeze inserts?

Absolutely! Made of a nontoxic material and tear resistant material, inserts will last over and over, and perform the same after each use. The inserts are capable of being used hundreds of times. Simply place the inserts into the freezer for a few hours to refreeze.

Can I clean the inserts?

Normal wear will not need cleaning often, because inserts are made from a nontoxic antibacterial material.

If the inserts get grimy or sweaty, they can easily be cleaned. Soak in tap water with a small amount of antibacterial soap added for 10 minutes.

Do not store inserts directly against frozen water. Regular ice may raise the temperature too rapidly, or stick to the inserts, causing them to tear or impacting their performance.

How do I use the inserts/shirt system?

Each shirt is equipped with 2 pockets on the front and 2 pockets on the back. Open and slide one an insert into each pocket. Close pockets with Velcro tabs to inserts firmly in place. If inserts impede movement in one location, simply use inserts in other pockets alone.
